The Replacement Killers
Dir: Antoine Fuqua, 1998 (7*)
One of the best Hong Kong style action films I've seen. Chow Yun-Fat plays a hit man, sent to a contract that involves a child, so he balks at the last minute and refuses to make the hit. His employers are angry, and send some other assassins in to make the hit and also Chow as well. Realizing what’s coming, he seeks out a top level documents forger, well played by Mira Sorvino, so he can escape, but the replacement killers arrive before they complete the paperwork, so Sorvino is swept into his dilemna as well as they escape together in a hail of gunfire. Don’t look for much here besides a "shoot em up", but as those go, this is definitely one of the best.
