Finding Neverland
Dir: Marc Forster, 2004 (10*)
Beautiful story, based on the life of author and playright J.M. Barrie, played by Johnny Depp in perhaps his best part, and his inspiration for Peter Pan and Neverland. Unfulfilled in marriage (to Rahda Mitchell), Barrie meets some kids in his nearby park, and their widowed mother, Kate Winslet in her personal favorite part (and film). They begin a platonic friendship, in which Barrie becomes the surrogate father for her boys, and the inspiration for his writing. Julie Christie also has a nice part. A small but very touching film, wonderfully done. Nominated for 7 Oscars, only one Oscar for Music.

It is a great movie. Important to realize it's been fictionalized, of course. But it's a delightful film. For more Peter Pan, check out the new novel! It's not like the other prequels and sequels which contradict Barrie's original stories. It's faithful AND it's based on his idea for more Pan adventure. Click on my name to see!

I also liked the Peter Pan remake from around 2002, a better adaptation I thought, finally with top-notch special effects... was planning to add that version here at some point..
